Breathe new life into old stones. We love setting your heirloom stones, if youre lucky enough to have them!
For this service, we charge a removal fee and a setting fee. We cannot create bespoke claw or bevel settings for your stones, they must be incorporated into your carved wax design.
*Please note stones are sent at the owner’s own risk. The Workbench holds no responsibility for heirloom stones while in our care. Gemstones can have already gone through generations of wear meaning they might be more fragile while resetting and prone to damage.

How it Works
DESIGN
Your dream ring awaits! Set the scene and carve out some time for yourself. Unbox your ring carving kit and launch your online video tutorials to learn the art of lost wax carving.
CARVE
Using the tools from your kit you’ll shape your ring design from jewellers wax (best bit - the design is all yours) and log your ring design specifications via our ring portal; add gemstones, gold plating and more!
CAST
Pop your finished wax ring in the post to us for its final ring transformation. We use planet friendly recycled metal to cast your one of a kind ring.
DELIVERY!
Our small team of UK based jewellers professionally polish, set stones, engrave and post your finished ring back to you. Who knows maybe one day it will end up on antiques roadshow?
Further Info
What’s In The Kit?
1 Wax ring blank, 2 practice wax, 3 ring sizer, 4 craft knife, 5 ring box and envelope for safe wax ring delivery to our workshop, 6 sandpaper (coarse & smooth), 7 ring ‘size it yourself’ sandpaper, 8 thumb protector, 9 pencil.
Your kit includes all* costs involved in making your ring – from the silver to the casting and polishing!
*Rings larger than a size U or designs where additional wax has been added a small silver fee may be charged to cover the additional metal required for casting.
🎨 Your kit includes our ring design guide containing inspiration, carving tips and a space for you to draw your ring design. You will also gain access to our exclusive online ring carving tutorials.
💎 Our online ring portal is where you tell us how you would like your ring finished before sending your wax in for casting. Here you can pay for any extras, such as adding gemstones, engraving and metal upgrades.
🌎 UK shipping is included in the price of the kit. However, international ring makers will need to arrange their own wax ring return method of shipping. We recommend a tracked service to ensure safe delivery to our workshop.
Psst! If you love your practice/ second wax you can get this cast too for an additional £45 (£75 for a wide/ signet and £100 for a wide signet).
Wax Width
There are a variety of different wax widths for you to choose from (not to be confused with ring size, which is your finger measurement, or ring depth). The wax width refers to the space your ring takes up on your finger.
Remember, these are your maximum starting widths. You can always carve a slimmer design if you really want to…you’re the designer after all.
Our standard wax is 5mm wide, one has a square profile so you have more height to create your dream ring and the second is round in profile for creating speedy band designs.

As the wax is thinner, it can only accommodate gemstones up to 1.5mm and we are not able to offer star settings or professional engraving. We proudly cast our rings in 100% solid recycled 925 silver and have done so ever since we launched in 2014. Using our in-house recycled bullion reduces the demand on the planet for mining these precious metals. Our silver contains no nickel.
You can further personalise your design by choosing between a shiny or matte finish, shown in the examples above.
We use a triple coating of gold to plate your rings to ensure a high-quality finish while offering an affordable alternative to solid gold. The base metal is always silver.

Rose gold is an alloy made from a combination of pure gold and copper along with a few other metals. This blend creates a beautiful rosy hue. We use a triple coating of rose gold to plate your rings to ensure a high-quality finish while offering an affordable alternative to solid gold. The base metal is always silver.

We proudly cast our rings in 100% solid recycled gold and have done so ever since we launched in 2014. Using our in-house recycled bullion reduces the demand on the planet for mining these precious metals. Our solid gold rings are hallmarked for authenticity.
We cast in 9ct and 18ct gold which is most common in the UK, but we now also offer 14ct gold which is a favourite with our friends in America.
There are 3 main differences between 9ct, 14ct & 18ct gold. These are colour, price and durability. 9ct gold contains 37.5% pure gold while 18ct has 75% pure gold content. This not only effects the price but also the colour. 9ct gold has a paler, cooler hue while 18ct gold has a much richer, deeper gold tone and 14ct gold sits in the middle. Even though 18ct has more gold, which a softer metal it is actually more durable in the long term, making it the most popular choice for wedding bands.
For a forever gold finish, you can request a quote for solid recycled 9ct/ 14ct/ 18ct gold or platinum. You can request a precious metal quote via the ring portal. The quote is based on the ring size and thickness of your wax ring. We are unable to provide quotes for rings that have not been carved and sent back to us. But to give you an idea, a small 9ct solid gold stacking ring in the smallest ring size starts from an additional £350. There is no commitment to go ahead with your quote, you can choose to keep your ring silver or opt for gold plated options.
If making a wedding band you must match the ct of the engagement ring to avoid one ring scratching the other.

What is an Ocean Diamond?
Ocean diamonds are a story of courage, discovery, depth and radiance. These diamonds are wild, brilliant and deeply compelling. A chance to carry the ocean with you always.
Ocean Diamonds started their journey to the sea billions of years ago. They are carried along through torrent and flow by the patient power of rivers until they eventually settle between gullies or become hidden within the seabed. Only the strongest diamonds survive this journey and are discovered by expert diamond divers, off the west coast of South Africa.
Ocean diamonds are responsibly handpicked from the oceans of Namibia and South Africa by expert divers who leave minimal traces on the environment. No mining or industrial hoovers that hoover up the sea bed that destroy land, habitats and eco systems are used. Comparable to inshore fishing, the boats are small and they dive close in to the shore. Between dives nature does its job to naturally turn over the sea bed with its crashing waves. Patience is key as the divers wait for calm conditions in order that the visibility is clear and the seabed is settled. This only occurs a few times a month which contributes to the sustainability of the process.
Much of the equipment on the boats is made by local people. The divers have extensive knowledge of the ocean so they know exactly where to discover the diamonds and they can avoid unnecessary disturbance to the seabed, bringing the diamonds to the surface with minimal trace.
Knowing the origin of your diamond is highly important to us, the stones we buy are gifted with a Certificate of Provenance specifying the country of origin and the coastal area from where it has been retrieved, bringing total reassurance of origin.
Like all our diamonds they are processed via the Kimberley process which is an international certification that regulates the trade of rough diamonds. Its standards and process prevent the trade of conflict diamonds.

Monograming has a rich and fascinating history, with roots dating back to ancient Egypt and Greece. A monogram may be a sentimental reminder of a loved one, a relationship or connection. For others, a monogram may be a statement of personal identity and style. Design your own or transform a font you love into your own monogram for £55 extra. (2-3 letters)
A seal is always engraved in reverse and is much deeper than traditional two dimensional hand engravings with a third or fourth dimension added to make the seal deeper and finer. This takes the Master Engraver much more time to achieve and is normally engraved by more mature hand engravers. Historically these rings were pressed into hot wax to seal letters so the receiver could be assured of authenticity. Whether you want to continue your family crest or design your own our pricing for deep seal engraving costs £650.
One of our favourite engraving styles and by far the most personal. Simply write your engraving on a piece of paper, take a photo and our master engraver will copy it exactly. Everyone’s handwriting is unique like a fingerprint and beautiful in their own way. We love how these rings in years to come will show not only a special meaning but be a lasting reminder of the person themselves. A really great choice for rings celebrating love, friendship and milestones.
