Breathe new life into old stones. We love setting your heirloom stones, if you’re lucky enough to have them!
For this service, we charge a removal fee and a setting fee. We cannot create bespoke claw or bevel settings for your stones, they must be incorporated into your carved wax design.
*Please note stones are sent at the owner’s own risk. The Workbench holds no responsibility for heirloom stones while in our care. Gemstones can have already gone through generations of wear meaning they might be more fragile while resetting and prone to damage.

Adding professional engraving is a beautiful way to tell a story and personalise your jewellery.
Here, you’ll find a helpful guide to our engraving, whether it’s a special date, a loved one’s initials, a secret message or your family crest. Adding a truly personal finishing touch to your jewellery, each engraving is carefully done by hand (no machines here!) by our artisan engravers in Hatton Garden, London’s iconic jewellery quarter.
Hand engraving cuts into the metal, creating a richer, more tactile finish that lasts a lifetime. It’s the difference between something printed and something crafted.

One of our most loved engraving styles and the most personal. Simply write your message on paper, photograph it, and our engravers will replicate it exactly. Everyone’s handwriting is as unique as a fingerprint, and capturing it on jewellery preserves a person’s character in metal.

Fingerprint
£90
Your fingerprint tells a story that’s entirely your own. Using a simple ink pad, our engravers can capture and replicate prints with incredible precision and clean lines. All we need is your fingerprint image and preferred placement, and we’ll do the rest.
The look of an engraved finger print is a little different from those taken and cast using our imprint kits– they appear crisper and more defined.
Deep Seal

The most intricate form of hand engraving, deep seal engraving is carved in reverse and sculpted with multiple dimensions. Traditionally used to press wax seals on letters, these designs ensured authenticity and heritage. Today, they remain a mark of fine craftsmanship and tradition.
Each deep seal is completed by a Master Engraver with decades of experience, creating work that’s both artistic and enduring.

Marking the Design
The engraver begins by carefully sketching or tracing the design onto the metal’s surface. This guide ensures perfect placement and balance before a single cut is made.
Carving by Hand
Using a sharpened steel tool called a graver, they carve directly into the metal, removing tiny curls of material to create clean, deep lines that catch the light beautifully. Every stroke is done by hand, guided by experience and a steady touch. No machinery, no shortcuts.
Finishing & Detailing
Once the engraving is complete, the piece is hand-polished to highlight each line and curve. The result is a subtle depth and texture that machine engraving simply can’t replicate.
