Making Your Own Wedding Rings- Sophie & Sam

Welcome to Real Couples, Real Stories—a peek inside the ring designs (and love stories!) of the people who chose to carve their own wedding bands using our Wedding Band Kit. From heartfelt engraving to clever stone choices and custom shapes, each couple shares what inspired their design and what it meant to create something so personal for their big day.

Sophie & Sam

Sophie carved not one but two chunky fluid bands in 100% solid recycled silver, one scattered with a cluster of Peridot, Morganite and Moonstone — birthstones for her, husband Sam, and their cat Vashka (because of course she’s part of the family!)

Sam went for a tattoo wedding band, designed to echo hers. Cool, personal, and perfectly them.

What made you decide to carve your own wedding rings?

When Sam asked me to marry him after 17 years together, it was the first time I’d actually thought about what sort of rings I’d want to wear forever.

I’ve always worn lots of chunky rings, so I knew I didn’t want anything delicate or traditional and when I started to look at different jewellers and designers, nothing stood out to me.

Luckily, in my searches I came across The Workbench and it just seemed like the perfect solution. I’ve always been so particular about what I wear, and I make a lot of my own clothes, so it made absolute sense that I’d design and carve my own rings so they felt 100% me.

Tell us about the design of your rings?

When I saw that you could choose birthstones I knew exactly what I wanted – a stone each for me, Sam, and our cat Vashka!

Sam’s is peridot, Vashka’s is moonstone, and mine is morganite (which isn’t actually my birthstone but there was never a doubt that the stone representing me would be pink!).

I love how the colours work together and knowing I wanted the three stones in a cluster really helped inform the design and how the two rings would curve and nestle together. Sam has the little motif tattooed on his finger as his wedding ring too.

What does wearing a ring you’ve designed and created yourself mean to you?

I love that no one else in the world has them and that they’re completely my vision. And the stones representing the three of us is so special to me, it’s a reminder of how lucky and happy I am every time I look at them.
