Celebrating 10 Years of The Workbench London!

You might’ve heard… The Workbench London is celebrating its 10th anniversary! What started as a casual craft night has grown into a pioneering brand in the world of jewellery design and wax ring carving. Over the past decade, we’ve helped thousands of people carve their own unique rings, hosted unforgettable events, and launched our innovative DIY kits. As we mark this special milestone, we wanted to take a look back at our incredible journey and the exciting future ahead.

The Workbench London: How It All Began

Back in 2014, during an impromptu craft night in our Leyton kitchen, we had an unexpected eureka moment. While carving a wax ring for a customer, we realised everyone could experience the joy of creating their own one-of-a-kind jewellery. That spark led to our first-ever ring carving workshop, held at our local pub. What started as a fun idea between friends quickly became an exciting new way to enjoy a fun night out.

From Pub Workshops to Major Brands

Our wax ring carving workshop concept was an instant hit. TimeOut called it “Seriously Fun,” and our workshops soon caught the attention of major brands. We became the fastest-selling workshop at Topshop Oxford Street (RIP Topshop), Vogue featured us in their top 10 gift guide and Conde Nast Traveller featured us in their 29 date ideas in London! These early successes helped cement our reputation, leading to incredible partnerships with retailers such as Anthropologie, SpaceNK, Fortnum & Mason and many other beloved retailers.

Expanding Our Reach with The Workbench Ring Carving Kits

In 2015, we took our workshops to the next level by launching The Workbench Box, the world’s first DIY ring carving kit. This made it possible for people across the world to design and carve their dream rings from home. Our kits include everything you need, from easy-to-use tools to extra wax for practice. With video tutorials guiding each step of the way, we opened up this ancient jewellery-making technique to everyone.

Making Our Mark on BBC’s Dragon’s Den

In one of our proudest (and maybe cringey?!) moments, we appeared on BBC’s Dragon’s Den in 2021. Presenting our unique approach to jewellery and ring carving to the dragons was a scary experience. Despite fluffing the numbers we somehow managed to walk away with an offer of investment from Sara Davies and the exposure catapulted us to a new level of recognition, introducing The Workbench London to a whole new audience. It was a turning point that helped us grow even further!

A Growing Collection of Jewellery Kits

Over the years, we’ve expanded our offerings beyond our original ring carving kit to include a variety of new and exciting kits. From the Stacking Ring Kit to the Signet Ring Kit, we’ve introduced creative ways for you to craft jewellery that suits your personal style. For those planning their big day, our Wedding Ring Kit lets couples carve their own extra special rings with a unique, personal touch. We’ve also launched the Ocean Diamond Kit, which features ethically sourced ocean diamonds—a stunning way to merge sustainability with fine craftsmanship. These kits have made it easier than ever to create meaningful, one-of-a-kind jewellery from home!

Exciting Events: Ring Carving Workshops Across the UK

From humble beginnings in Leyton pubs, we’ve gone on to host ring carving workshops across the UK. From cosy cafés to exclusive events at high-end retailers, we’ve transformed countless spaces into creative hubs where people design their dream rings. Our favourite venue was London’s Drink Shop Do where we hosted monthly workshops and got to meet so many of our customers many of whom have gone on to create numerous rings with us.

Each event has brought its own magic, meeting our customers in person and seeing your designs come to life has easily been the highlight of our journey.

2023: Our Grown Up New Look

As we approached our 10-year anniversary, we knew it was time for a refresh. In 2023, we unveiled a brand new look for The Workbench, embodying the fun, contemporary, and inclusive spirit we’ve cultivated over the years. Alongside our sleek, sustainable packaging, we introduced exciting new products like our best selling imprint and pet print extension kits, allowing you to capture your loved ones unique finger print, paw or nose print allowing you to carry them with you always.

What’s Next: Looking to the Future

As we step into our second decade, we’re heading in a slightly new direction, and we can’t wait to share what’s coming. From new product launches to creative partnerships, we’re committed to continuing our mission of bringing jewellery design to everyone. And with special birthday surprises and party bag giveaways lined up, October is just the beginning of an exciting new chapter.
