When it comes to creating your dream ring with The Workbench London, it’s essential to make sure your wax design is perfect before we transform it into metal. Once cast, the design cannot be altered, so take your time, and follow this easy checklist to ensure your ring is ready for its big moment.
Each step in our final checklist is crucial to ensuring your finished ring is as comfortable and beautiful as possible. We want you to love your ring and wear it every day, so taking the time to perfect the fit, smooth the finish, and balance the design will make all the difference. From refining the thickness to checking the height, each detail contributes to how your ring feels and looks. Following these steps will help you create a ring that’s not only a unique piece of jewellery but also one you’ll cherish and enjoy wearing for years to come.
1) Study Your Ring Collection
Start by taking off your jewellery and closely inspecting your existing rings. Pay attention to the width, depth, and height of each one. Keep in mind that our rings are solid, never hollowed out, so they will feel heavier than some of your store-bought styles.
Our wearability video in our online tutorials library walks you through how to check the fit, balance, and comfort of your ring to ensure it’s perfect for everyday wear.
2) Do the £1 Coin Check
A £1 coin is 2.8mm thick. Try holding one between your fingers. Notice how uncomfortable it is? If your band thickness matches or exceeds this, it’s time to keep sanding or carving your wax down carefully for a more comfortable fit.
3) Double-Check the Height
How tall is your ring? If it’s too high, the ring could feel top-heavy and spin when worn. Sand it down to a comfortable height that feels balanced.
4) Smooth that Surface
If you’re after a sleek, polished look, now’s the time to smooth out any knife marks or deep scratches left by your tools. Pay special attention to the sides and edges – a smooth finish all around makes for a professional look.
5) Consider the Bottom of the Ring
Don’t forget the base of your ring! Make sure it’s not too bulky, as this can lead to scratching and discomfort when worn. It’s easy to overlook, but ensuring the bottom is slim and comfortable will make a big difference.
7) Ready to Send Your Ring Back?
When you’re satisfied with your design and only once you have completed the ring portal submission process, pop your carved ring into the small paper envelope provided. Be sure to fill out the front with your email address and kit code, then place it in the small box, and pop it into the return envelope included in your kit.
Now your ring is ready to go! Your rings will first be sent to our PO Box, and from there, they will be forwarded to our workshop. Please note there might be a slight delay between your rings arriving at our PO Box and reaching the workshop, but we’ll notify you via email as soon as they arrive. Keep an eye on your tracking, and we’ll take it from there!
By following this checklist, you’ll be sure your ring is ready for casting, and soon, you’ll have your very own custom-designed piece of jewellery.
